ALPHA-METHYL-ALPHA-PHENYLPYRIDINE-2-CARBINOL HAS A WIDE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS IN ORGANIC SYNTHESIS:
- As a chiral ligand: It can be used as a ligand for metal complexes, especially in chiral catalytic reactions.
Method:
THERE ARE SEVERAL WAYS TO PREPARE ALPHA-METHYL-ALPHA-PHENYLPYRIDINE-2-CARBINOL, AND A COMMONLY USED METHOD IS:
1-Bromo-2-acetophenone and 2-pyridine formaldehyde were reacted to give 1-phenyl-1-(2-pyridyl)ethyl ketone.
THEREAFTER, 1-PHENYL-1-(2-PYRIDYL)ETHYL KETONE IS REDUCED TO ALPHA-METHYL-ALPHA-PHENYLPYRIDINE-2-METHANOL BY A REDUCTION REACTION.
